Why use a Luthier Supplier radius dish when there are so many others on the market? Well there are several reasons...

1. We use the highest quality material to build our dishes. There is no one out there selling 13 ply birch plywood radius dishes. Birch ply Radius Dishes, so what, why not just use MDF? Well, because Birch ply will not move as much as MDF with humidity changes. Our dishes will outlast any MDF radius dish if properly taken care of. When a dish starts to warp, so does the guitar top or back, and you usually do not know this until much later in the construction process. We also protect the dish by applying 1 coat of a 3lb cut of Shellac as an extra protection against humidity changes. So why take your chances with MDF when you can have the best material and the most stable dish available. Yes you can buy MDF at much cheaper prices, but you will be buying more of them because they wear out quickly. Why not just buy the best!

Radius Dishes are used to shape the top and back braces to the radius of your top or back and are also used to glue the top and back on to the sides of a guitar. One of the most useful applications of a radius dish is to create the radius of the top and back on to the sides so that the top and back will fit perfectly with the radius of the top and back, and therefore creating a less stressful joint.

One Radius dish with heavy duty 60 grit sandpaper. This dish is made with the highest quality 13 ply birch plywood available. It is 2 feet(24") in diameter and .75 inch thick. They have 1 coat of a 3 lb cut of shellac on them to protect the wood from humidity changes. The radius dishes with sandpaper are also used for glueing the top and back braces on to the top or back using a go-bar deck. With the addition of sandpaper, you are able to sand the bottom of your braces to the exact radius of the top or back. You can also sand the sides of the guitar with the lined kerfing installed to get the exact radius of the top or back. This produces a much less stressful joint as the sides will accept the top or back much more easily because it will have the same radius as the top or back.

For radiusing the braces, just place the brace on top of the dish, then use a pencil to roll it on the bottom of the dish while at the same time drawing a line across the bottom of your brace. You then use a hand plane to plane down to the line, then use the dish to finish it off. They should fit in the bottom of the dish with slight downward hand pressure.

These dishes can be used to radius the sides to the exact radius of the top or back. Make sure you use the correct radius for the top of the sides to match the radius of the top, and the correct radius when sanding the back/bottom of the sides for the back.

These dishes can also be used for glueing the top or back in a go-bar deck. You just need to place 3 sheets of newspaper down on top of them to protect the top or back from getting scratches.
